windows - customization panel for setting various 4Dwm resources
/usr/sbin/windows
The windows customization panel allows the user to set certain IRIX
Interactive Desktop resources applicable to the SGI window manager
(4Dwm). The following is a list of resources configurable via the
windows customization panel:
Toolchest Orientation (horizontal/vertical)
Keyboard Focus (click to type/point to type)
Display Windows Overview (on/off)
Opaque Window Move (on/off)
Auto Window Placement (on/off)
Save Windows & Desks (continuously/explicitly)
If Save Windows & Desks is set to Explicitly, the Set Home Session button
can be used to save the current state of your windows on the desktop.
When Toolchest Orientation, Keyboard Focus or Display Windows Overview is
modified, a notifier appears stating that the change will not take effect
fully until the window manager is restarted. Since 4Dwm activates these
window settings, it must be restarted to apply the changes fully.
Restarting 4Dwm usually takes a few seconds.
For more information about the entire IRIX Interactive Desktop
environment and about the XUSERFILESEARCHPATH environment variable, see
the IID(1) man page.
$HOME/.Sgiresources
The windows panel saves the user's settings in the $HOME/.Sgiresources
file. If the user has a .Xdefaults or .Xresources file that contains
resources that this customization panel modifies, the default files will
take precedence over .Sgiresources.

NOTES
Like most other customization panels, the windows panel has the
``runonce'' feature, meaning only one instance of the application will
run at one time. Attempting to launch the application a second time will
have the effect of deiconifying the application window or popping it to
the top on the current desk.
Unlike most other SGI applications, the windows panel will not be
restored at login by 4Dwm session management. This avoids the windows
panel being remembered as part of the user's session, when the user
chooses to Save Windows & Desks Explicitly.
