CONV_ALIAS(1) CONV_ALIAS(1)

NAME    [Toc]    [Back]

conv_alias	- convert MediaMail aliases to Netscape	Address	Book

SYNOPSIS    [Toc]    [Back]

     /var/netscape/communicator/conv_alias

DESCRIPTION    [Toc]    [Back]

conv_alias	reads $HOME/.zmailrc for MediaMail aliases and adds any	new
aliases to	user's Netscape	Address	Book. If the alias already exists in
the Address Book as a user	or list, the alias will	not be added and a
     message will be printed.

conv_alias	does not alter $HOME/.zmailrc. It updates
$HOME/.netscape/address-book.html,	or creates it if it doesn't exist. A
backup copy of the	Address	Book(s)	is taken before	any modifications are
     done ($HOME/address-book.html.original or $HOME/address-book.html.nn, and
     $HOME/abook.nab.nn).

If	you previously ran Communicator	4.x, you will have to import the
address-book.html file manually before you	will see the MediaMail aliases
in	your Address Book. To import, select Communicator -> Address Book.
In	the Address Book, select File -> Import. In the Import	address	book
     File Finder dialog, select	$HOME/.netscape/address-book.html.

Since Netscape Address Book entries are typically more descriptive	than
MediaMail aliases,	after conv_alias is run, it is recommended that	the
user go into the Address Book and at minimum, update the "Name" field.
