ENDSESSION(1) Silicon Graphics ENDSESSION(1)
NAME [Toc] [Back]
endsession - terminates a login session
SYNOPSIS [Toc] [Back]
endsession [ -f ] [ -display displayname ]
DESCRIPTION [Toc] [Back]
endsession terminates a login session initiated by xdm by
removing the session property placed on the root window by
reaper. Removal of this property is a signal to xdm that
the session should be closed. This results in immediate
termination of the current login session. endsession uses
the environment variable DISPLAY to determine what session
to terminate.
Command line options are available to change the display
variable and to suppress the confirmation window. The
command line options are:
-display displayname
Overrides the environment variable DISPLAY. Changes
which session will be terminated.
-f Surpresses the confirmation window, endsession will
just run. (The 'f' stands for "force.")
endsession has no effect on "failsafe" login sessions since
reaper is not run. Such sessions are terminated by exiting
the login shell.
WARNING [Toc] [Back]
Execution of endsession causes the immediate termination of
the session specified by DISPLAY.
